Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching has announced that the Cyber Security Bill is projected to be tabled in Parliament by the end of this year at the latest. Currently, her Ministry is reviewing various aspects of the bill and seeking feedback from the Attorney-General’s Chambers and several other ministries before submitting it to Cabinet for approval.

According to Bernama, Teo revealed that the draft for the bill is approximately 60 per cent completed. She added that the government is aiming to table the bill in Parliament in July, but should the timeline not be feasible, it will be tabled by the final parliamentary session at the end of 2024.

The Deputy Minister stated that the bill aims to ensure that all platform providers in the country adhere to SOPs and facilitate authorities in obtaining information and conducting investigations related to online security issues. She also stressed that the Ministry plans to update existing legislation to improve it and close as many loopholes as possible.
