Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching in Parliament today revealed key details about the coverage of both the 5G and 4G networks in populated areas nationwide. She asserted that 4G network coverage in populated areas nationwide has exceeded 97%, while the 5G network coverage is at 82.4% as of 31 December 2024.

Bernama quoted Teo as saying that for the 5G network, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) has completed the construction of 7,485 5G transmitter sites nationwide. In response to a question from Padang Besar Member of Parliament (MP) Rushdan Rusmi, the Deputy Communications Minister added that all 44 planned 5G sites in Perlis have been completed, achieving 91.4% 5G coverage in populated areas in the state.

Meanwhile, Teo commented that while the 4G coverage is now over 97%, coverage differs among telco providers. Hence, she urged telco companies to use the Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) technology which allows them to share infrastructure for a more stable 4G services access.
