Tesla Model Y Malaysia pre-order - Everything you need to know to get your first Tesla electric SUV

With the hype and buzz going around, Tesla was finally launched in Malaysia yesterday. Here's a quick overview of what you can get from the company, including the pricing, specifications, availability and what to expect more from Elon Musk's company. 

For starters, Tesla's all-new electric SUV, Model Y, made its debut in Malaysia and the public can now experience it at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur from today until 31 October 2023. In fact, the Model Y Rear-wheel drive, Long Range, and Performance will be displayed at Pavilion, starting this Thursday for public viewing and ordering.

To recap, the Model Y is the newest, most affordable electric SUV with a starting price of RM199,000. It was designed and built as Tesla's first mass-market sports utility electric vehicle, offering 2.1 cubic metres of cargo space, versatile seating and storage for up to 5 passengers with their belongings. With ultra-responsive motors, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, boasting a range of up to 533 km (WLTP).

Besides the Model Y Rear-wheel drive, the Model Y Long Range and Performance vehicles are priced at RM246,000 and RM288,000 respectively. Model Y will begin delivery to Malaysian customers in early 2024 and as part of Tesla's commitment to Malaysia, the company has unveiled a comprehensive development plan for experience centres, service and support, as well as charging infrastructure in the country.

The first indoor Supercharger Station with a total of 8 Superchargers at Pavilion KL will be open soon. With Tesla Supercharging, Model Y, operating at a peak efficiency of 250 kW, can charge up to 120 km in just 5 minutes. In line with Malaysia's goal to promote low-carbon mobility and support the EV industry, Tesla customers will enjoy full import and excise duties exemption for newly registered zero-emission Tesla electric vehicles. 

Additionally, customers can benefit from 100% road tax exemption and individual income tax relief of up to RM2500 on expenses related to EV charging facilities for the assessment year of 2023. Companies that rent non-commercial EVs may claim tax deductions on the rental amount up to RM300,000 from the year of assessment 2023 until 2025.
