While Tesla will officially come into Malaysia soon, this time around there’s news about their Supercharger network here. According to a tweet from our Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry one of the requirements for Tesla “includes the installation of at least 50 Super Chargers within 3 years”.
At least 30% of these Superchargers should be usable by other brands as well, so you don't necessarily have to buy a Tesla to use these Superchargers. With Tesla, BYD, BMW and a number of other brands already offering electric vehicles, this is good news but given the rather high price of entry (we still don’t see how RM120000 is affordable) we’re still rather hopeful for EVs from national car makers like Proton and Perodua.
So, overall, good news for us in our move to adopt Electric Vehicles in Malaysia, but what do you think? Are 50 more chargers enough with what we have now? Share your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave.com
