Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has decreed that the Cyber Security Act 2024 (Act 854) will come into force starting 26 August 2024, after receiving the approval of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim on 18 June and published in the Gazette on 26 June.

For your information, the YAB Prime Minister is also the Minister responsible for cyber security enforced recently. Hence, this is the regulations made under Act 854 that you should know:

  • The Cyber Security (Period for Cyber Security Risk Assessment and Audit) Regulations 2024
  • The Cyber Security (Notification of Cyber Security Incidents) Regulations 2024
  • The Cyber Security (Licensing of Cyber Security Service Providers) Regulations 2024
  • The Cyber Security (Compounding of Offences) Regulations 2024

In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office informed that Act 854 was enacted to improve the nation's cyber security by making provisions for the establishment of the National Cyber Security Committee (JKSN), the duties and powers of the Chief Executive of the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), the functions and duties of the head of the Information Infrastructure sector National Criticality (NCII) as well as the NCII entity itself.

In addition, it has also been enacted to manage cyber security threats and incidents against NCII, regulate cyber security service providers through licensing, and make provisions for related matters. We have yet to confirm other details on the subject. Hopefully, everything will be sorted out soon.
