It's no secret that Sony has been supplying smartphone camera sensors used in the iPhone for years. But Apple seems likely to end their partnership with Sony. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, this comes after media reports that analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects Apple to use camera sensors from Samsung for the iPhone 18 in 2026. The report was further corroborated by a leaker named Jukanlosreve who posts a lot of Samsung news, claiming to have some details about the sensor.
In addition, Samsung is rumoured to be working on a 3-layer stacked camera sensor for Apple, which should improve the camera performance of future-generation iPhones. Stacked sensors are where the processing electronics are mounted directly to the back of the sensor. The three-layer version will have more circuitry installed on the sensor, which should result in increased signal processing speed and improved camera responsiveness.
Moreover, stacked sensors also have the potential to eliminate sources of noise in images and improve overall image quality. We have yet to confirm other details on the news. Hopefully, everything will be resolved soon.
