The Digital Ministry has begun discussions with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) on a specific legislative framework to support the use of autonomous vehicles. So, what should you know about it?
More appropriate laws could be introduced soon
For your information, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said it was to look into appropriate laws to ensure safe use of vehicles. He also said:
This discussion is related to what we call the 'autonomous vehicle network'. If we look ahead, in several other countries, there are already vehicles that can move without a driver.
Moreover, he stressed that the use of autonomous vehicles must be supported by clear standards, including safety aspects that are researched and refined.
Furthermore, he added that the legal framework developed must also give emphasis to these matters. Meanwhile, Gobind also added that vehicle data, including dashcam recordings, is an important component of the plan.
In September last year, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that his ministry was examining a framework to amend the law to regulate the operation of autonomous vehicles on the road.
