The Disney+ app no longer supports payment using the App Store

Apple previously required app developers to include account creation and payment or subscription features using the App Store payment system. This caused many services and prices to increase until Apple was ordered to allow an alternative payment system. Now that the App Store payment system is no longer mandatory, Disney is taking advantage.

For your information, the Disney+ app on the App Store no longer supports the feature of creating an account and making a subscription or making any payment using the App Store payment system from within the app. On the other hand, users should use payment via credit card, debit card, subscription via telco or television, etc. via the web. This matter is also affected by the Hulu application.

According to Disney, this feature only affects new users. Users already using App Store payments do not need to do anything now. Disney indirectly avoids paying Apple a 15%-30% commission, which is in line with the strategy of Disney CEO Bob Iger who wants to grow the business by reducing the cost of getting new customers. This matter is also affecting users in the United States only and as far as I have checked, Disney+ Hotstar in Malaysia still supports subscription through the App Store and Play Store.
