Facebook will officially shut down its Gaming app on 28 October 2022 after failing to compete with Amazon’s Twitch in the live game streaming market. In case you’re not familiar, the Facebook Gaming app lets users watch and play video games on demand.

In an update on the Facebook Gaming app, the Meta-owned social media company expressed their gratitude to the app’s community for all they’ve done since the app first launched back in April 2020. Now, just a little bit more than 2 years after its release, the app will be removed from both Android and iOS in October.

However, users of the Facebook Gaming app can still access their games, streamers and groups when they visit Gaming in the Facebook app. According to CNBC, the app, like any other game streaming platform struggled to compete with Twitch which has a significant foothold in the market.

As of the second quarter of 2022, Facebook Gaming only accounted for 7.9% of the market, behind YouTube at 15.4%. Twitch has more than both platforms combined with a dominant 76.7% market share.
