The smartphone has replaced so many devices in our pockets over the last decade and more. MP3 players, digital cameras, voice recorders, and more? All gone. But there are some things that these mobile devices can't do, things that the Flipper One could do.
Pocket Linux PC
For those unaware, Flipper is a company that launched the Flipper Zero multi-tool back in August 2020. Interestingly, this device is a multi-functional security tool designed to work with access control systems. It's primarily used by enthusiasts and debuggers for penetration testing and hardware debugging, but can also be programmed to function as a remote for home appliances (like TVs and air conditioners).

Instead of being a successor, the new Flipper One is a Linux-based multi-tool pocket PC you can build on for various purposes. For example, Flipper confirmed you could turn the device into a "5G-enabled IP network analyser" or "SDR-powered radio signal analyser with local AI". The company is also hoping the Flipper One could be what a "Linux cyberdeck" can be, in reference to the cyberdecks from the game Cyberpunk 2077.
Multi-tool
Since the two devices are functionally different, the hardware inside is also different. The Flipper One is all about connectivity, which is why it has two Gigabit Ethernet ports, one USB Ethernet (5 Gbps), and Wi-Fi 6E (2.4/5/6 GHz). You could even connect an M.2 modem to it for 5G connectivity.

If you wanted to, the Flipper One could become a network gateway, a WiFi hotspot, or even a media TV box. There's a lot more the device could do, but you would need to have some technical know-how to make your ideas work. Of course, joining Flipper's open source community is a way to learn more.
Flipper wants your help
With that said, you can't buy the Flipper One yet. There's no price for it and no Kickstarter page either, so you can't even crowdfund it if you wanted to. But if you're keen on playing a part in the project, you can check out the Flipper One development portal here.
