Previously, the Indonesian government suspended TikTok's operating license in the country for not handing over data requested by the government. On the same day, TikTok agreed to hand over data in the form of increased traffic and advertising revenue between August 25-30, 2025. As a result, the ban was lifted.

The data is needed to track gambling activities

For your information, Indonesia's Ministry of Communications and Digital said the data was taken to track gambling activities carried out during live streaming. Data on prizes received by users was also requested to assist in the investigation. After TikTok fully handed over the data, KomInfo re-granted the operating license.

Unlike in Malaysia, operating licenses for online platforms have been mandatory for several years. Failure to apply for a license resulted in the blocking of Steam, PayPal and Reddit platforms for several days in Indonesia, angering users.
