Over the weekend, there was an announcement from the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) regarding Internet access in Malaysia. According to Deputy Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin, he said that the KKMM remains committed to ensure that the rural areas can have a better Internet experience with better facilities to be on par with cities.

In addition, he mentioned that the KKMM is in talks with the telco companies on how to solve the problems. As many of us Malaysians know, entering into a rural area means your mobile data line would probably die (99% of the time) and the minister has received many complaints about it. In addition, he also mentioned that electricity supply disruption is one of the reasons affecting the performance.

Zahidi mentioned that he was informed that the generator sets (gensets) are usually used to maintain the telecommunication transmitters in the rural areas. Since it's not a proper electrical supply, it affects the transmitters and there are some damaged genset conditions. Lastly, he said the KKMM would increase the efforts to improve Internet access in the border areas as well such as Padang Besar and many other regions that are lacking support.

The short interview was done after an award ceremony for the Royal Malaysian Police front line team at the Padang Besar District Police HQ. Stay tuned for more local tech news like this at TechNave.com.
