Apple has now received approval to launch its Hypertension Notification Feature (HTNF) in Malaysia. So, what should you know about it?
It has been approved since last week
According to Xavier Naxa, a listing on the Malaysian Medical Device Authority (MDA) website shows that the hypertension notification feature has received approval since last week. Hypertension, or commonly called high blood pressure, is defined as a persistent increase in blood pressure at or above 140/90mmHg, and is usually confirmed through readings taken on at least two to three separate measurements.

Moreover, through Apple's hypertension notification feature, users will be notified if there is a pattern of readings that indicate the possibility of hypertension. This notification data is stored in HealthKit and displayed directly in the Health app on iPhone.
Besides that, this feature uses data from the optical heart sensor on the Apple Watch to analyse the response of blood vessels to heartbeats. The algorithm works passively in the background, evaluating data over 30 days and will send notifications if it detects consistent signs of hypertension.

At this time, it is still unknown when HTNF will be activated for users in Malaysia. However, it is likely to arrive in the near future as the feature has received approval from the MDA. In terms of device compatibility, this feature is expected to support Apple Watch Series 9 or later as well as Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, with the latest version of watchOS.
