
The Malaysian government, through the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), is upgrading tracking infrastructure to provide real-time data on the usage and status of EV charging stations across the country.
A more comprehensive and integrated system
For your information, the new system, called the e-Mobility Service Platform (eMSP), is being developed by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii). It will be a more comprehensive, integrated and consistent system with data being synchronised via API with the existing Malaysia Electric Vehicle Charging Network (MEVnet) dashboard.
Among the issues that arise among EV owners in Malaysia is that the charger is not working or is being used differently than shown in the application. There is also the issue of the charger no longer having full charging power because it has been used by another vehicle.
Under the Low Carbon Mobility Action Plan 2021-2030, Malaysia aims to provide 10,000 public charging spaces nationwide by the end of 2025. But at the end of last year, there were only 5,360 public chargers, far below the target.
