The Malaysian government is planning to make 5G services more affordable than 4G

In gearing up for the upcoming 5G technology phase in Malaysia, our Minister of Communications and Telecommunications, Annuar Musa just gave us a small update. At the end of last week, he stated that the government is planning to make 5G services more affordable than 4G.

During a conference meeting last week, there was a question asked by the Lembah Pantai MP about the affordability of 5G services. According to Musa, how the government plans to reduce the cost is using Digital Nasional Berhad's infrastructure management.

Musa also stated that if the government use the auction approach, then the consumers will be charged with the auction price which will raise the cost. On that note, there's still no word on the progress between DNB and our local telcos. Nor how the telcos will offer Malaysians the 5G services from the lack of proper 5G towers (for now).

In case you didn't know, the government is aiming for 5G availability in December 2021. We expect some spots in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya to implement 5G first as well as Melaka, according to Musa as one of the top priorities due to its tourist attraction spot. We shall wait and see, so stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
