The National AI Office, or better known as NAIO, will apparently begin operating as an official institution starting 28 July 2026. Let’s take a closer look.
NAIO will be the agency driving the AI Nation 2030 vision forward
For your information, this was announced by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, who said that soon, NAIO will be given the power to oversee and coordinate the development and governance of artificial intelligence (AI) in Malaysia.
"NAIO will be an institution that focuses on policy, governance and development of the AI ecosystem, as well as helping to produce talents and individuals who are capable of developing AI technology to realise Malaysia's vision as an AI Nation by 2030." Gobind Singh Deo, Digital Minister
Moreover, the announcement was made during the launch of the Digital Realty Data Centre today. NAIO has been operating under the auspices of MyDIGITAL Corporation since 2024. With the confirmation as an official government entity, the scope of the body's operations will be further expanded, allowing it to make decisions regarding the national digitalisation and artificial intelligence agenda.
