While the Nintendo Switch 2 is now on pre-order in Malaysia, we got another surprise, which is a Nintendo Switch App on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. But what does it do? Read below to find out more!

What's New?

Previously, the Switch app was a Nintendo Switch Online companion app, but it was redesigned. The new updates bring a few new enhancements designed to support both the original Switch and the newly launched Switch 2.

From the descriptions in the online stores, gamers can use the Switch app to add friends via QR or friend codes, upload screenshots and videos, and view notifications, even without a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. In the friends section, you can also view what games they are currently playing.

As for screenshots and gameplay videos, Switch 2 users can upload up to 100 of their latest content to the app's cloud, stored for 30 days. In addition, GameChat will be available on the app, a feature exclusive to the Switch 2.

Supported Switch Games on the Switch App

The Zelda Notes companion that was marketed is also present, as long as you have the Switch 2 Edition of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Besides the two Legend of Zelda games, the Switch App will also support Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Splatoon 3 and Splatoon 2.

Future Updates?

While nothing is confirmed yet, we can expect more features to be added to the Nintendo Switch App. This includes:

  • Game-specific tools (like the ones mentioned above)
  • Expansions to GameChat compatibility
  • Visual/stats-based companion features
  • Integration from the Nintendo Today! and Nintendo Music apps, which aren't available in Malaysia.

We are also still waiting for a Nintendo eShop region for Malaysia, which was confirmed by Nintendo. Until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news only at TechNave.com.
