For the longest time, the Nintendo Switch Pro has been rumoured numerous times during the lockdown and it never happened. Switch fans have been wondering if it would ever be announced and we are here to tell you the bad news.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa told the media that the company is actually being careful about developing an upgraded model. The reason is that in Switch's 7th year, the sales momentum of the handheld gaming console got decreased. This probably means is not enough to fund the project either.

In the report, it was also revealed that Nintendo successfully sold 18 million Switch units for the fiscal year ending in March 2023. In total, the company sold over 125 million units, marking the Switch as the third best-selling video game console of all time. The PlayStation 2 is in first place with almost 155 million units, followed by the Nintendo DS at over 154 million units.

With the upcoming anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releasing this Friday, Nintendo projected to sell around 15 million Switch units for this fiscal year but that's on an optimistic note. There's also a special Tears of the Kingdom Switch edition which looks cool but just a skin change without any internal upgrades. Most Zelda BotW fans already have a Switch as well.

Handheld gaming consoles are proving to be popular as over the years, the Steam Deck became a hit with PC gamers and recently, ASUS ROG just revealed a brand new ROG Ally device which will be unveiled soon this month. With these two gaming devices, there's a good chance that Switch may drop out of popularity.
