The Outlook app on iOS and Android is now showing more ads to non-Microsoft 365 subscribers

Microsoft is reportedly putting more ads in its Outlook mobile app for both iOS and Android, something that free users of the platform have been enduring for the past few months. Previously, the company only put ads in the ‘Other’ tab within the app for free users but now, it’s popping up in the single-inbox mode too.

In fact, ads are now appearing at the top of an inbox and are almost purposefully designed to look like real emails. If this sounds familiar, well, it’s basically similar to how ads are shown on the web versions of Gmail and Outlook itself.

As reported by The Verge, the change has been implemented by Microsoft over the past few months and the only way to avoid ads altogether is by being a Microsoft 365 subscriber. The matter was confirmed by the tech giant who said that for free users of Outlook, ads are shown in their inbox. However, users do have the option to only see ads on the ‘Other’ inbox if they enable the ‘Focused inbox’ feature on the Outlook mobile app.
