The Selangor government seems determined to implement the concept of Industrial Revolution 4.0 or IR4.0 in the manufacturing and industrial sector in the state, with the introduction of the IoT-enabled Industrial Park or IEIP initiative. So, what should you know about it?
A new initiative to promote the use of smart automation and IoT
In short, the IEIP initiative was introduced to promote the use of smart automation and IoT (Internet of Things) technology in manufacturing factories in the state. This is to enable these factories to produce output that is not only more stable, but also of better quality and safer.
The launch of this initiative was officiated by Selangor state government Exco, Muhammad Fahmi Ngah, at the Selangor International Business Summit 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, recently.
Additionally, the first phase of the IEIP Initiative will cover 17 industrial parks throughout Selangor, including Pulau Indah Industrial Park, Banting Industrial City, Eco Business Park V, Subang Aerotech Park and UMV High Value Manufacturing Park.
Moreover, Fahmi said that this initiative is part of the Selangor government's plan to also ensure that 100 percent of the populated areas in the state have fast 5G network coverage.
In terms of IoT technology integration, the Selangor government recommends that factories that want to take advantage of this smart technology implement the following technologies:
- CCTV
- Air quality monitoring
- Energy consumption monitoring
- Water usage monitoring
The Selangor government also said that factories can voluntarily share these monitoring details so that the government can identify what can be done to improve the quality of energy use and environmental protection.
