The UK government is currently considering limiting the amount of time children can spend on social media. The move is seen as part of cybersecurity measures expected to be introduced in the UK. So, what should you know about it?

Only 2 hours a day

According to initial considerations, the UK is expected to introduce a two-hour daily usage limit for social media applications, in addition to limiting usage time to 10PM on any given day.

Several apps already offer parental control features. However, not many people know how to enable them or how to control them. Sometimes the features are hidden away with various other settings options, which may not be friendly to many parents out there.

Currently, China is among the countries that offer controls for children and teenagers under 18, including in terms of access to online games.

There are concerns, but no actions from Malaysia yet

To recap, the Communications Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, expresses his concerns that X is not doing enough to curb cyberbullying, scams, and harmful online content on their platforms.

As far as we know, the MCMC has yet to take further action from that statement.
