The United States is reportedly set to block the sale of NVIDIA B30A chips to China formally. According to Reuters, citing internal government sources, the White House has directed several agencies not to approve export licenses for the artificial intelligence (AI) chip to China. So, what should you know about it?

A chip developed uniquely for the Chinese market

For your information, the NVIDIA B30A is a chip developed specifically for the Chinese market with reduced capabilities compared to the NVIDIA B300. Earlier this week, Trump was quoted as saying that chips under the NVIDIA Blackwell family should be sold only to domestic companies to ensure that the advantage of AI development remains in the hands of the United States.

Moreover, China has been predicting that the Trump administration will block chip sales and has been ordering local companies to stop buying NVIDIA chips for the past few months. As a result, NVIDIA chip sales in China have now fallen to zero, while last year they held 90% of the market.

Yesterday, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said that China will win the AI war with the United States because of the Chinese government's energy subsidies and lack of control. It is not known whether the White House's sales ban was due to Huang's statement.

At the time of writing, NVDIA shares fell nearly 4% with a market value of around USD4.5 trillion (~RM18.88 trillion), down from USD5 trillion (~RM20.98 trillion) last week due to the published report.
