The ZTE Axon 20 selfie performance only has 26 points (and maybe that's why it never came to Malaysia)

Back in December last year, we were told that the world's first under-display camera, the ZTE Axon 20 would be arriving in Malaysia but it never did. We were never told the reason why, but we think we have a good idea due to its rather poor front camera performance.

Having an under-display camera is technically impressive, but DxOMark says otherwise. Based on their selfie camera test, the marks are really low (just 26 points) and you don't really need the chart to tell you this. In fact, the selfie photos shown on the website don't look good at all.

From the photos, it's clear that there is an underexposure issue even taken in a good lighting environment. The dynamic range, colour saturation and that weird "portrait" glow surrounding the subject are also off. With such poor scores and subpar video performance, maybe this is why the ZTE Axon 20 never came to Malaysia.

To be fair, the front camera is behind the display after all. But I guess with this kind of selfie photo quality, that could be the reason why phone brands aren't releasing their version into the market yet. OPPO was the first one to have a demo tech model but it was years ago so it's simply not ready yet. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
