The Power of Play: 2025 study by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) involving 24216 players from 21 countries revealed that the average age of global players is 41 years old. So, what should you know about it?
A lot of gamers are women, too
What's even more surprising is that 48% of them are female players, almost dominating male players at 51%. The most popular platform is mobile devices with a 55% share, followed by PC and consoles (21% each).
Moreover, the report revealed that the percentage of female players who choose to play video games because they train their brains and keep their minds sharp is higher than male players.
On the other hand, more men choose to play video games for fun. Additionally, according to the perspective of global video game players, they agree that video games offer several benefits, such as relieving stress, aiding in mental health, helping them feel happier, and helping them avoid loneliness.
This study, supported by ESA and European gaming organisations such as UKIE, SELL and VideoGamesEurope, proves that games are not just entertainment, but also tools for personal and social development.
