Last year, Carl Pei came back into the scene with the brand called Nothing. Its first product was the Nothing ear (1), but it was soon rumoured that the company had more up its sleeve. A smartphone is expected to be one of them, and it might launch this year as predicted.

Yesterday, Carl Pei more or less confirmed that a Nothing smartphone is in the works. The founder tweeted that he's "Back on Android" and that Android 12 is nice. This suggests that the company is working on a smartphone that's powered by Android 12. Of course, a series of tweets doesn't constitute proof. Moreover, his tweets don't provide any other information that could be relevant.

However, we did see replies from the official Android and Snapdragon Twitter accounts. In other words, this smartphone is likely real. It also means that we can expect the phone to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon chip. The exact chipset is currently unknown, but it could be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 if it's flagship class. The Snapdragon 870 chipset is also possible, as it's a popular option for affordable flagship phones.
