Covid-19 is a nightmare for all of the people in 2020. The virus has been highly contagious and the cases of patients have surpassed 200,000 worldwide. No matter how bad it is, we should keep in mind that it’s best for us to social distance ourselves right now, in order to stop the virus from spreading. Talking about the spread of the virus, professionals have done the research and confirmed that the new coronavirus can survive in the air longer than you thought.

Researchers from the US’s National Institute of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UCLA and Princeton University have come together to observe how long Covid-19 is able to survive in the air. By testing with different materials and forms, the virus was still detectable after hours and even days. The virus is able to stay up to three hours in aerosols, up to four hours on copper and up to 24 hours on cardboard. However, if they’re on plastic or stainless steel, they can last even longer which goes up to three days.

The virus can be transmitted through droplets such as respiratory secretions. Therefore, our government has come out with the movement control order to restrict human contact. Being home, the situation would become more controllable as the research has shown that people would still acquire the virus from touching contaminated objects.

Compared to SARS that happened in 2002, the Covid-19 has appeared to be more contagious. Other than that, the virus can also be transmitted without noticing as some people don't show any symptoms. With this research, it has also proven that the virus can be airborne, staying suspended in the air for a long time. Therefore, from now on, let’s be alert and follow all the precautions to avoid the virus.
