In efforts to make high speed internet accessible to everyone - even in rural areas, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has proposed to provide high-speed broadband in the rural areas of Perak. They will be the first state to introduce the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP).
To be clear, the NFCP combines fiber optics and wireless connectivity in order to bring high speed internet to the rural areas of Malaysia. So far, the government handled project has been tested in Jasin, Malacca back in January. Residents from Taman Merbau Perdana, Taman Maju, Felda Tun Ghafar, the Jasin post office and municipal council who participated in the trial had noted internet speeds of up to 1GBps. The trial had affected around 1100 households.
It is the NFCP’s aim to make sure that all Malaysians have access to high speed internet services at affordable prices. In addition, they also aim to support the development of the of the digital economy and the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
The project is expected to be launched by this year. As of right now, there are still a few things to iron out between the Perak government and TNB. As soon as that happens, the official announcement date will be released. Hopefully this will be a solution for those living in rural areas but having to pay high prices for slow internet.
