As you should know, most Apple Intelligence features aren't available yet on the iPhone 16 series and iPhone 15 Pro models. If Apple is on time, we can expect the first update by the mid of October. That said, you should also know that Apple Intelligence will take up some space.
A few more Apple Intelligence features will be released on iOS 18.1 which is aiming to launch sometime this year. According to the latest iOS 18.1 beta document, at least 4GB of storage is required for Apple Intelligence. The official document also mentioned iPad and Mac models with M1 and later will be getting Apple Intelligence as well, but the amount of storage wasn't mentioned.
Keep in mind that 4GB of storage is reserved for Apple Intelligence features and will come on top of the iOS 18.1 update and installation. On top of that, there is also a footnote at the end of the document by Apple, saying “Storage requirements for on-device Apple Intelligence models will increase as more features roll out”.
The iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro all have a 128GB storage option so we hope that you didn't buy that if you have a ton of media files. This is because of the Apple Intelligence storage requirement and it's going to increase further. We wouldn't be surprised if the 4GB requirement doubles up to 8GB as Apple slowly rolls out them.
In case you're wondering, below are the confirmed Apple Intelligence features that are coming in iOS 18.1:
- Refined notification summaries
- New writing tools such as proofreading and rewriting your text
- Clean Up and Memory creation in the Photos app
- Summaries for incoming e-mails and Safari web browsing
- AI-powered Focus mode, transcript summaries and others
- A new Siri with select Apple Intelligence features
