Nike's previous self tying shoes, the 2016 HyperAdapt 1.0

Nike teased a video on Twitter which point to a very futuristic method of tying shoelaces. The video shows some athletes pressing on their phone before looking down in amazement which seems to indicate that their shoes were being tied. The final athlete in the video confirms that it is done via a smartphone when he asked, “So I can connect this to my phone?”.

So far no official product has been shown off during the video but we do know that the process can be loud judging from the mechanical whirring we heard in the video. Nike previously had self tying shoes named the HyperAdapt 1.0 from 2016 which had a button on the side of the shoes to tie them up. The 2016 HyperAdapt 1.0 were priced at USD$720 (~RM2949) but it speculated that these new upgraded version of the shoes which can be connected to your phone may be valued at slightly less than half of than the original price.

This move is a very impressive move by Nike as it adds inclusivity to those with disabilities who can’t tie shoelaces and it is a major plus now that people who are using their products no longer need to bend down in order to activate the button to tie their laces.
