Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) has confirmed that the proposed Automated Rapid Transit (ART) transport system will not proceed due to its excessively high operating costs of RM211.95 million for a period of 10 years. So, what should you know about it?
The allocation for this project has exceeded PPj’s financial capacity
For your information, this decision was announced by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Lo Su Fui, in the Dewan Rakyat, who explained that the allocation exceeded the financial capacity of PPj as a local authority.
Following this cancellation, the government has no plans to implement the route expansion phase for the trackless tram system at this time, although it went through a public trial phase in 2024. As an alternative measure to address mobility issues in the country's administrative centre, PPj will focus entirely on improving the NadiPutra bus service and operating water taxis.
