Next month, the next-gen iPhone 16 series will be unveiled and there are already plenty of rumours. In this latest take, AppleInsider made some dummy iPhone 16 models and previewed what the cameras could use.

According to AppleInsider, both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus retain the same camera sensors such as the 48MP sensor with f/1.6 aperture and 2x telephoto optic zoom. However, the ultrawide lens is said to have a faster f/2.2 aperture, allowing more light to come in. It is also believed that the ultrawide camera will have macro mode support for the first time.

As for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, the primary camera is still 48MP with f/1.78 aperture with 2x optic zoom. Both could get a 5x 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.8 aperture so it wouldn't be exclusive to the Pro Max like before. Meanwhile, the ultrawide could be upgraded to 48MP with a pixel-binning feature like the primary camera, improving overall image quality. ProRaw photos could be supported as well.

Other than that, Apple could launch a new image format called JPEG-XL which sounds like a higher JPEG-quality file. On the other hand, the capture button is rumoured to be capacitive and located at the lower-right side of the frame, allowing your right index finger to press it when holding the device horizontally. It also has a force-sensitive half-press function like a DSLR camera and users could even use sliding commands for other tasks.

Of course, as always, since these are all dummy iPhone 16 models, it's best to take them with a pinch of salt. But they are all based on insider reports so some of them could be true and AppleInsider has a solid reputation. Still, it's best to just wait and see the next Apple Event.
