Generative AI has been out for a while, so many people would have been exposed to it by now. However, few if any are impressed with AI features as a whole. Some people use AI features, but it seems the majority don't consider them useful.

In a survey by SellCell, 73% of iPhone users and 87% of Samsung smartphone users find that AI offers "little to no value". This isn't some smalltime survey either, as it tallied answers from 1000+ iPhone users and 1000+ Samsung users 18 years or older in the US. Of course, you could say that this is the opinion of American smartphone users. But in our opinion, it's indicative of the general perception of AI by users around the world.

Having said that, those who use these genAI features. iPhone users found the Writing Tools, Notification summaries, Priority Messages, Clean Up in Photos, and Smart Reply in Mail and Messages most useful. On the other hand, Galaxy AI users were most fond of Circle to Search, Photo Assist, and Chat Assist. Both platforms have other AI-powered features available that are generally less used.

As a reminder, Samsung was the first to introduce generative AI features to smartphones with Galaxy AI earlier this year. Apple also rolled out Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.2 last week. In other words, genAI on smartphones is still in its early days, so user perception could change.
