The most used passwords of 2024 are out - and it's 123456 again

In Nordpass' sixth edition covering the most used password, it's that annual year again where we get to read some hilarious passwords. In this edition, the company collaborated with NordStellar in analysing people's password habits and from the looks of it, nothing much has changed.

Not surprisingly, "123456" remains the most used password in Malaysia as well as globally. In fact, it has won the top spot for five years in a row since Nordpass started this. It is followed by "qwerty123" in second place while the rest of the top 10 consists of the usual numbers, qwerty, alphabets and "password" (yes, just password).

On the other hand, Nordpass also published a new section called "Most popular corporate passwords" for the first time. Again, the first place and the rest of the passwords are still no different. Besides those common passwords, two unique ones stand out - "sayang" (13th in personal) and "hotmail123" (3rd in corporate).

This is extremely alarming especially for corporate passwords as there is a lot of sensitive and confidential information. Nordpass noted that people just can't seem to bother with using strong passwords against the rise of cyberattacks and hacking, even if many organisations have been promoting the awareness for a few years.
