The new Perodua EV emphasises great safety features with an affordable price

Perodua is set to launch its first electric vehicle (EV) model by the end of this year. The EV will be assembled at Perodua's new factory in Rawang and will be one of the most affordable EVs in the Malaysian market. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, Perodua President and CEO, Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad stressed that safety is the mainstay in the development of this EV model. This includes not only the vehicle, but also factory operations and worker safety.

Additionally, Perodua is committed to ensuring that all technical and production aspects comply with strict safety standards to avoid unwanted incidents, especially in the context of new technologies such as EVs. Perodua is targeting the sales price of its first EV to be below RM80,000, making it one of the most affordable EVs in the Malaysian market.

This is in line with the brand's identity as a car manufacturer for all people. This model will use over 30% local components. This will not only reduce costs, but also support the local automotive ecosystem and generate job opportunities in the EV sector. The assembly process will be carried out at Perodua's new factory in Rawang, Selangor, demonstrating the company's willingness to invest in modern facilities to support the future of electric mobility.

Furthermore, production of the model is expected to be finalised by October 2025 , with an official launch planned before the end of the year. Malaysia is expected to be among the first markets to receive Perodua's first EV.

This move by Perodua demonstrates a serious commitment to the transition towards green mobility. With an approach that emphasizes safety, affordability and local industry support, Perodua is poised to become a key driver in the country's EV ecosystem.
