The next Apple Watch could feature Apple Intelligence

In an effort to make the Apple Watch an AI-powered wearable device, Apple is reportedly developing several versions of the model with a built-in camera, which is expected to launch as early as 2027. So, what should you know about it?

According to Mark Gurman in Bloomberg's Power On newsletter, Apple is planning this feature for both the Apple Watch Series and Ultra models. For the Apple Watch Series, the camera will be integrated into the screen, just like the iPhone. However, it is not yet clear whether it will use under-screen technology or require a special cutout for the camera.

For the Ultra model, the camera is said to be placed on the side of the watch, next to the Digital Crown and side button. Apple is likely taking this approach because it has more space to utilise. According to Gurman, it will also make it easier for users to point their wrists to scan something.

Moreover, Gurman doesn't expect the camera on the Apple Watch to be used for FaceTime. Instead, it may include Visual Intelligence capabilities. Through Visual Intelligence, it allows users to quickly get information about objects or places around them. For example, they can point their Apple Watch towards a restaurant to see its opening hours or customer ratings as they pass by.
