Apple is now reportedly testing a 200MP camera sensor, according to popular leaker Digital Chat Station in a post on Weibo. So, what should you know about it?

Although no further details were revealed, this 200MP camera sensor is expected to be used for the main camera on upcoming iPhone models. For comparison, Samsung introduced a 200MP rear camera on the Galaxy S23 Ultra in 2023, followed by the S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra, which also feature the same-sized sensor.

Additionally, a 200MP camera would allow the iPhone to capture photos with greater detail. The higher megapixel count also allows photos to be produced in higher resolution, making it easier to crop and print at larger sizes without compromising image quality. However, the iPhone 17 Pro model that will be launched this year is expected to still use a 48MP camera.

In addition, there are no rumours about the use of a 200MP camera for the iPhone 18 Pro model so far. Overall, a camera specification upgrade of this magnitude is expected to take several more years before being introduced.
