A few weeks ago, reports emerged that the Tata Group in India had been the victim of a cyberattack with over 200,000 files believed to have been stolen. According to Reuters, the hacking group World Leaks has leaked the iPhone 18 circuit schematics, a complete list of components and component suppliers such as TSMC and Qualcomm. Also revealed are the battery and camera components used. This information is confidential because it reveals who Apple gets their supplies from.
Tata is an important partner for Apple iPhone production in India
For your information, it became a serious issue after hackers leaked documents containing information on components and suppliers of the iPhone 18 Pro to a dark web site. Some official photos of the iPhone 18 Pro and a drop test conducted by Tata can also be seen. Tata is a partner in iPhone manufacturing in India under the Made in India program that aims to reduce the price of the device. At the same time, it allows Apple to no longer concentrate production in China.
Moreover, Apple flew devices from India to the US market last year to avoid Trump's hefty tariffs. Apple and Tata have yet to issue official statements about the cyberattack or the authenticity of the leaked documents.
This is not the first time for Tata Group
This is the second serious cyberattack involving the Tata Group. Last year, production of Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover vehicles in the UK was disrupted for weeks after the factory was hit by a ransomware attack. The hackers are believed to be from Russia, causing losses of GBP1.9 billion (~RM10.2 billion).
Personally, we feel this is alarming news for iPhone users in Malaysia. If these hackers' claims were true, who is to say that they don’t have the means to steal data or private information from the existing iPhones? Regardless, nothing is confirmed yet. So, do take this news with a grain of salt. What are your thoughts on the news? Feel free to leave your comments below. Stay tuned to TechNave.com for more updates like this.
