Yup, you read that right. There's going to be a movie about BlackBerry. The plot narrative would be the rise and fall of the once popular smartphone brand back in the 2000s. The news report has also announced that there is a director attached to the project, as well as two main casts for the lead role.

The director of the movie, Matt Johnson said that the title of the movie is just simply "BlackBerry". The plot could be similar to The Social Network, where it explores the business relationship between two friends and founders Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie. Jay Baruchel (from This is The End and Knocked Up) and Glenn Howerton (from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and A.P. Bio) have been cast and may play the two characters in the movie.

The BlackBerry movie will be based on the 2015 book “Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry” which was written by Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff, reporters from the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail. There are other cast members for the movie as well, such as:

  • Cary Elwes (from Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and Saw)
  • Saul Rubinek (from Hunters and True Romance)
  • Rich Sommer (from The Devil Wears Prada and Mad Men)
  • Martin Donovan (from Tenet and Big Little Lies)
  • Michael Ironside (from Total Recall and Scanners)
  • Johnson (from The Dirties and Operation Avalanche)
