According to 9to5Google, Samsung will introduce a new naming scheme, splitting its flagship foldable into a standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a premium Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Both will debut at Galaxy Unpacked in London on 22 July 2026, with the Ultra rumoured to start at USD 1,999 (~RM8,850). Surprisingly, the standard model shifts to a wider 4:3 outer cover screen, making it look and feel like a traditional smartphone when closed.

The Big Design Twist: Wide vs. Narrow

In a bit of a twist, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will feature a wider outer cover screen with a 4:3 ratio. This shift means the phone will look and feel much more like a traditional smartphone when it is closed.

Meanwhile, the more expensive Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will stick to the classic, taller, and narrower "book-style" design that fans are used to. However, the Ultra earns its premium status by packing advanced internal hardware into an incredibly slim body, measuring just 4.1mm thin when opened.

Upgraded Specs and Built-in Magnets

Recent public regulatory filings from the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) and the FCC confirm that these models are getting closer to production. The leaks also reveal a highly requested feature: both phones will support Qi2 magnetic wireless charging. This means users can finally use magnetic cases, wallets, and chargers just like with an iPhone.

Under the hood, both versions will be powered by the powerful new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is shaping up to be a versatile daily driver, sporting a 7.6-inch main folding screen, a 4,800mAh battery with 45W fast charging, and a dual 50-megapixel rear camera system. It will be available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.

Moreover, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra steps things up with a larger 5,000mAh battery and a drastically improved, sharper internal screen. This premium display boasts a massive peak brightness of 3,600 nits, making it incredibly easy to see even under direct, harsh sunlight.
