LG has a new camera technology that prevents the camera bump from going bigger in the future. Ahead of the CES 2023, LG Innotek unveiled a new telephoto zoom camera module that should help flagships reduce their camera bump sizes, and it could even make it to the next-generation iPhones.

The optical telephoto zoom camera module is a periscope lens that offers continuous optical zoom between 4x and 9x and image stabilization. It has a zoom actuator that moves the lens to change the focal distance or set focus. The actuator also has high moving speed and increased durability with less battery consumption. Most importantly, it occupies less space, which should help solve the modern smartphone camera problem.

According to the source, LG has partnered with Qualcomm to have the new zoom lens inside devices featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Meanwhile, the next-generation iPhones could also use this camera, with LG Innotek being one of the component suppliers. Unfortunately, iPhone suppliers don't usually mention Apple when launching new components. Therefore, we might have to wait until the exact launch of the new iPhones to find out.
