The newly released iPhone Air, starting at RM4999, has surprised many by lasting longer in battery life tests compared to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. So, what should you know about it?
Battery performance comparison
For your information, this was achieved despite the iPhone Air housing a much smaller 3149mAh battery versus the S25 Edge’s 3900mAh cell.
In a continuous web browsing test, the iPhone Air achieved 12 hours and 2 minutes, just edging out the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 11 hours and 48 minutes.
Moreover, the video streaming test highlighted a bigger gap. After five hours of playback, the iPhone Air still had 81 per cent charge left, while the Galaxy S25 Edge dropped to 67 per cent.
Furthermore, independent testing on YouTube also showed that the iPhone Air delivered close to 9 hours of screen time (8 hours 57 minutes) before fully draining, while the Galaxy S25 Edge managed 8 hours 45 minutes.
What does this mean?
The results suggest that Apple’s focus on energy efficiency and software optimisation is paying off. Despite having about 20 per cent less battery capacity, the iPhone Air outlasted the Galaxy S25 Edge in several real-world scenarios.
Additionally, this is noteworthy given the iPhone Air’s slim design. Thinner devices typically make compromises on battery size, but Apple’s balance between hardware and software efficiency shows that slimmer phones can still deliver respectable endurance.
For consumers in Malaysia and elsewhere, this means choosing an ultra-thin flagship does not necessarily mean sacrificing battery performance. Still, longer tests with gaming and mixed daily use will be needed to confirm whether this advantage holds up in all conditions.
