If you are a fan of Apple products, this rumour might surprise you. According to an unverified source in South Korea, Apple might stop developing its 5G modem. That said, what should you know about it?

At this point, it is no secret that Apple is serious about developing its own 5G modem. This could be the Cupertino’s brand effort to rival Qualcomm in the smartphone market. According to tipster "yeux1122" on the Korean portal Naver blog, Apple’s concentrated effort in developing its own 5G modem has failed multiple times.

As a result, the company could end its multi-year project. Plus, @Tech_Reve on X mentioned that he heard similar issues from supply chain sources in Japan. Similarly, Wall Street reported that Apple faced several issues during the development of this 5G modem in September. That includes unrealistic goals, a lack of understanding of the challenges involved, unusable prototype products and so forth.

In addition, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg mentioned similar issues recently. According to Mark, the development of this 5G modem is still in its early stages and it “could lag behind its competitors”. Furthermore, Apple is wary about copyright claims from Qualcomm regarding the tech behind its 5G modem.

We have yet to confirm the validity of this rumour. At this point, it is best for us to wait for further confirmation from Apple.
