Thousands of new Android phones are pre-installed with Malware - Kaspersky

Security experts from Kaspersky Lab have detected a new, highly dangerous version of the Triada malware ( Backdoor. Android OS.Triada. . According to Kaspersky, this Trojan is hidden in fake Android phone firmware that resembles popular models and is sold in online stores at discounted prices. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, Kaspersky, in its report, stated that they estimate that more than 2,600 users in various countries have been affected by this issue, including Russia. Kaspersky said that this malware is believed to be pre-installed on Android devices during the production or distribution process before it reaches the users.

Additionally, Triada is capable of carrying out activities such as stealing social media accounts (such as Telegram, TikTok), sending messages silently via WhatsApp and Telegram, impersonating and changing numbers during calls, controlling SMS (read, send, delete), downloading & running other applications without knowledge, disrupting network connections, including anti-fraud systems, and stealing cryptocurrency by changing wallet addresses.

Following this discovery, Kaspersky recommends that people only purchase smartphones from authorised distributors and install security applications to scan and detect malware on the device. Kaspersky reminds users that the risk of pre-installed malware on Android devices is still high, and users need to be more vigilant.
