According to the latest data from Similarweb, at the beginning of this month, Threads had 141.5 million daily active users (DAU) on the smartphone app compared to X, which had 125 million DAU. That said, what should you know about it?
Threads has surpassed X for usage on smartphones
For your information, Threads has 7.7 million DAUs compared to X's 140.7 million DAUs for website usage data only. While X still has more DAUs overall, its usage on the smartphone app has now been overtaken by Threads.
The rise in Threads usage was driven by the controversy over Grok posting unauthorised pornographic images on X, which led to it being blocked in several countries, such as Malaysia and Indonesia. An investigation was also conducted, leading Grok to disable the indecent image generation feature for all users last week to avoid being sued.
