Yes, the TikTok Shop is real and it's actually available in the Malaysian market (since early March 2022, according to its FB page). Like any social platform, TikTok Malaysia invites all local businesses including online sellers, buyers, creators and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) under one roof for an online shopping experience. Read on below to see how this works.

According to Darren Quek, Strategy Operations Manager of TikTok Malaysia, he said that more and more Malaysians are shopping online. Compare the third quarter of 2020 and 2021, there is a 17.1% increase and Malaysia recorded a total of RM279 billion of e-commerce income last year. Moreover, TikTok users are 1.7 times to also discover products and 2 out of 3 users would buy something on the platform.

Based on the statistics and research by TikTok Malaysia furthermore, 44% of TikTok users make spontaneous purchases as well. So from a business point of view, it makes sense to develop a TikTok Shop to utilise and encourage online shopping. To begin, business owners can now sign up to become a seller using their TikTok accounts via the TikTok Shop Seller Centre.

On the TikTok Shop, products are recommended to users through in-feed videos, livestreams and a product showcase tab prominently featured on sellers' TikTok profile page. This includes showcasing their creativity to get connected to users as well as managing everything from end-to-end such as uploading products, point of purchase and shipping fulfilment.

To encourage more users to join TikTok Shop, TikTok Malaysia only charges a 1% payment service fee and zero commission fees for its merchants at the moment. Existing customers can enjoy up to six free shipping vouchers a month, and new customers will be rewarded with an additional voucher for choosing to use TikTok Shop. There's also an ongoing Raya Sales campaign for shoppers to enjoy a wide range of deals with free shipping vouchers, discounts up to 99% and discount coupons from TikTok Shop. Participating brands include OPPO Malaysia and HadaLaboMY conducting livestreams.
