TikTok is suing the US government over the recent app ban

TikTok has now filed a lawsuit against the United States government. More specifically, an extension of new legislation that forces TikTok to sell their company to firms in the United States or the app will be banned in the country. That said, what should you know about it?

Previously, we mentioned the US government has given ByteDance time to sell or risk being banned. Bytedance was given a period until around January 2025 to sell the TikTok business in the United States, or the application would be banned. However, according to various early reports, Bytedance does not seem to want to sell TikTok – and at the same time, it may be blocked by China because it also includes a special algorithm.

Moreover, TikTok says the US move is unconstitutional, and the first time in history a platform has been forced to sell or will prevent Americans from joining a community of more than 1 billion users worldwide. The suit filed by TikTok also emphasises that it has been operating since 2017. Plus, various arguments for the ban have no evidence to date that TikTok data is being misused by the Chinese government.

Furthermore, with the filing of this lawsuit, let's all look forward to what the reaction of the United States government will be. Interestingly, the court's decision will determine the future of TikTok in the country. Who knows? It might affect Malaysia too.
