TikTok has launched a new set of features focused on family safety, digital well-being, and creator tools—available for free in this initial rollout.

Announced on 30 July 2025, the updates aim to improve content management, platform integrity, and user experience across its global user base.

What happened

Starting 30 July 2025, TikTok is rolling out new safety and support tools at no cost (RM0). These updates include enhanced Family Pairing controls, a wellness module for teens, and new features designed to help creators manage content and engagement more effectively.

New features overview

TikTok’s latest update builds on its ongoing efforts to promote user well-being and transparency. The new suite of tools caters to families, creators, and general users with improvements in safety, moderation, and content verification.

Family and teen safety tools

The upgraded Family Pairing feature now gives caregivers greater visibility into teen account activity. Parents will receive alerts when their teen posts publicly and can review privacy settings such as Duet, Stitch, and download permissions.

In European markets, families will also be able to restrict specific accounts from appearing in their teen’s feed, and these controls can be managed directly from the parent’s own TikTok account.

Digital well-being additions

TikTok is introducing a new in-app feature called Well-Being Missions. This module offers interactive tasks and digital badges that encourage healthier screen time habits.

It builds upon existing tools such as Sleep Reminders and Screen Time Management, promoting digital balance through light, gamified activities.

Creator-focused tools

Several new tools are being introduced to support creators:

  • Creator Care Mode: Filters out offensive and previously removed comments.
  • Bulk Mute for TikTok LIVE: Allows creators to block selected words, phrases, or emojis during live broadcasts.
  • Content Check Lite: Helps creators check if their videos are eligible for the “For You” feed before publishing.
  • Creator Inbox: Offers a more organized way to manage messages and creator-related notifications.
  • Creator Chat Room: Enables direct interactions with followers through invite-only group chats, available to selected creators.

These tools are designed to reduce the burden of moderation while giving creators more control and clarity over their interactions.

Footnotes and fact-checking

TikTok is also expanding its efforts to fight misinformation with the introduction of Footnotes, a community-based fact-checking system now piloting in the United States.

Around 80,000 users are participating in this program, which allows eligible contributors to add contextual notes to videos. Notes rated positively by the community may appear directly in users’ feeds to help clarify misleading content.

Are you a creator, parent, or casual user curious about how these new TikTok tools can improve your experience? Whether you are looking for more control, better safety features, or ways to enhance your digital well-being, these updates are worth exploring.
