In an unexpected twist, TikTok and FIFA have reached a first-of-its-kind Preferred Platform agreement that will significantly expand how football fans experience the FIFA World Cup 2026 on digital channels. Under the deal, TikTok becomes FIFA’s first-ever Preferred Platform, giving the social video platform enhanced collaboration and integration rights to serve as a central hub for World Cup coverage and fan engagement throughout 2026.

Expanded Coverage on TikTok

The agreement positions TikTok to offer more comprehensive coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2026, including original content tailored for fans and creators. Central to this initiative is a dedicated FIFA World Cup 2026 hub on the TikTok app, powered by TikTok’s GamePlan suite, where users can discover match highlights, ticket information, and interactive features such as custom stickers, filters, and gamification elements.

Official media partners and broadcasters will benefit from new digital freedoms under the partnership. Rights holders will be able to live-stream selected portions of matches, publish curated clips of games, and access special content produced by FIFA exclusively for TikTok. Broadcasters can also monetise their content using TikTok’s premium advertising solutions, creating fresh business opportunities around global football coverage.

Creator Access and Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Content

For the first time in a World Cup partnership, FIFA and TikTok will launch a global creator programme that grants select TikTok creators exclusive access to behind-the-scenes moments such as press conferences and team training sessions. A wider group of creators will also be able to use and co-create FIFA archival footage, giving fans unique perspectives and narratives from inside the tournament.

TikTok’s Global Head of Content said the partnership builds on the platform’s rapid growth in football content engagement and aims to convert online fandom into broader tune-in for live matches. According to TikTok, sports fans who watch related content on the platform are significantly more likely to tune in to live broadcasts.

Partnership Runs Through End of 2026 With Anti-Piracy Safeguards

The FIFA-TikTok agreement is set to run through the end of 2026 and follows a successful collaboration during the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, which drew tens of billions of views on TikTok. Throughout the World Cup campaign, TikTok will implement anti-piracy measures to support and protect FIFA’s intellectual property, reinforcing the platform’s commitment to safeguarding rights while expanding access to content.

FIFA’s Secretary General said the collaboration will help share the excitement of the World Cup with as many fans as possible, connecting global audiences to the action in new and innovative ways. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
