TikTok has now announced that it will suspend the live broadcast feature in Indonesia for several days, following the protests taking place in the country. So, what should you know about it?
What’s going on in Indonesia?
Protests in Indonesia are a result of the country's citizens being stressed by the current economic and political situation. This is compounded by protests over last year's increase in housing allowances for politicians there, which is almost 10 times the country's minimum wage.
Apart from demanding salary cuts for members of parliament in Indonesia, protests were also carried out by the people due to high taxes and inflation. Next, an incident involving a food deliveryman who was killed after being hit by a police vehicle led to larger protests in the country.
Moreover, TikTok said it would monitor the situation and temporarily suspend live streaming on its platform for users in the country. TikTok has over 100 million users in the country and has also invested in Tokopedia.
Furthermore, TikTok says it will take steps to ensure content sharing on its platform is safe and does not violate any community guidelines.
