During the end of September last month, Huawei Malaysia took the stage by introducing yet another selfie snapper smartphone. However, it was not just another typical device, the Nova 2i made its debut with a bang by unveiling an attractive RM1299 market price. So this begs the question - is Nova 2i the best value for money smartphone in Malaysia? Here are 5 reasons we think it is.
#1 - A Full HD FullView display that's just right
It's not a surprise that Huawei also jumped on the bandwagon on using a full front display. But this is just not any full front display, unlike some smartphone manufacturers that are implementing it just for the sake of trend, the Nova 2i FullView display comes in Full HD resolution of 2160 x 1080, its screen-to-body ratio is 18:9 and even though the display size is 5.93-inch, holding the device in your hand doesn't feel too big at all. This is also Huawei's first FullView smartphone.
#2 - Quad-camera setup
How many flagships can you name that has four cameras? At this moment, the Nova 2i is the only one that has them and it's only a mid-ranger. Granted, we know that having more cameras doesn't mean that it's the best. But for a price of RM1299? That's something.
For the main dual camera module, it uses a 16MP + 2MP sensor, while the front pair is using a 13MP + 2MP. The secondary 2MP sensor on both sides is acting as depth sensing sensors which allow the bokeh effect to take place whenever the user takes a photo, providing immediate bokeh effects on the images without having to manually adjust much before taking the shot.
#3 - The Bokeh Effect is improved
Speaking of bokeh effects, the wide aperture makes a return as expected but from my personal hands-on experience, the bokeh effect seems a lot smoother than other Huawei series and of course, the focus can still be adjusted even after taking a photo. This could potentially make the Portrait Mode (which by the way, is only seen in flagships at the moment) more natural and less-digital-looking, we can't wait to test it!
#4 - Smart Ambient Flash
On top of that, according to Huawei Malaysia during their presentation, the Smart Ambient Flash is actually pretty "smart" too. How smart? Well, it's said that the camera sensor is smart enough to tell the distance between your arm and the selfie stick's length, so depending on the distance, the flash will automatically adjust the brightness intensity ranging from 1 - 9 lux. It's also worth mentioning that this a first for Huawei to have this kind of flash technology.
#5 - Respectable specifications for a RM1299 device
Last but not least, again emphasizing on the RM1299 price tag, the Nova 2i houses a new mid-range Kirin 659 processor with an octa-core 2.36GHz, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage (expandable memory up to 256GB) 3340mAh battery and all the features we just mentioned above for just RM1299. Enough said.
